Please tell me you asked someone, ‘is this the way to Amirillo’ and your concierge way called Marie.
Strangely Amirillo was written by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield but when it was released in 1971, it was released in Europe first, sung by Toni Christie.
Only later being sung by Neil Sedaka and wasn’t as popular in the U.S. as it was elsewhere.
The song had a revival back in the 2000s being mimed by Peter Kay of Phe onix Nights TV programme.
Which spawned a whole load of copy videos by members of the public and the armed forces.
Which then caught on again in Europe.

These feel like they were sung by folks who have never been to Amarillo. It’s a pretty unfortunate place, in general. Nothing out there, not much going on, not very prosperous, super socially conservative, hot as balls during the summer, always windy, frequently smells like cow shit depending on which direction the wind is blowing from. I tend to think of that end of the Texas panhandle as the armpit of Texas. At least there’s oil money as you get further south down the Llano Estacado.
My grandmother spent some of her childhood there. She helped convince my father to turn down a good IT job offer there in the 80's.
That said, hopefully it’s gotten better in some way. It’s been a few years since I last went through there.

The song originally was to be called Pensacola. If that’s any better.
Phoenix Nights is a British sitcom about The Phoenix Club, a working men’s club in the northern English town of Bolton, Greater Manchester. The show was written by Neil Fitzmaurice, Peter Kay and Dave Spikey, produced by Goodnight Vienna Productions and Ovation Entertainments, and was broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK.
Peter Kay uses a lot of music, old and new in his shows be they a TV series or stand up.
He did a TV series called Peter Kay’s Car Share, where he often gives a lift to a colleague at the store he works at. The mix of music is amazing and has revived interest in many older songs.
Such as the U.K.s 1982 Eurovision entry with Bardo and One Step Further.
